1. Language Arts: English I

Introduction to Language Arts presents the techniques and strategies useful in reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking, and literary analysis. This is a great beginning course in language arts..

2. Language Arts: English II

Reading and analysis of fiction, drama, epic poetry, mythology, and non-fiction. Techniques from English I are applied to more-in-depth reading selections.

3. Language Arts: English III

Introduction to American Literature analyzes great writings by Washington Irving, and Frederick Douglass, and Eugene O’Neill. Strategies from English I and II are practiced further. Character, theme, and plot development are amply explained.

4. Language Arts: English IV

Introduction to British Literature and Literary History analyzes the historical context and the great works of British literature by Shakespeare, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Elizabeth Barrett-Browning. The classic epic poem Beowulf also is analyzed in the context of British history. Comprehension and creative writing exercises are featured.

5. Business Math

Basic skills and scenarios for the business setting that will guide personal and professional self-development.

6. Consumer Math

Development of skills in problem solving, communication, reasoning, and connections as related to consumer services and personal financial management.

7. Pre-Algebra

Discovery and practice with patterns, number theory, and math games in relation to the natural world. This course prepares students for Algebra I.

8. Algebra I

Solving equations, inequalities, and managing information are studied through measurement activities and the discovery of formulas. Probability and some complex concepts are also introduced.

9. Earth and Space Science

Planet Earth’s place in the Solar System and Galaxy are studied. The air, space, surface, and core of the Earth and its moons are also studied. Rocks and volcanoes are also studied.

10. Physical Science

Physics and chemistry, particularly mechanics, the laws of motion, energy, electricity, magnetism, the elements, molecules, atoms, sub-atomic particles, nuclear reactions, light, heat, the periodic table, organic chemistry, and bio-chemistry, are introduced. At least one laboratory exercise is included in each lesson.

11. Biology

Provides an understanding of life, its origins, evolution, and types. The building blocks of life and complex forms of it are discussed. Each branch of biology is explored.

12. Health/Life Management Skills

Holistic approach to the study of self including relationships and communication, stress and time management, first-aid, drug use, physical, emotional, and mental health wellness issues are discussed in the context of making good, responsible choices.

13. Art Appreciation/History/Criticism

Elements, principles, and vocabulary of art and the tools of artists are examined alongside the great themes in art history. Critical analysis of the diverse, fascinating works of art is also practiced.

14. American History

Examines significant events in American history from discovery to the contemporary era. Themes of colonization, revolution, nationalism, civil war, reconstruction, industrialization, immigration, progressivism, world wars, economic depression, and foreign policy are introduced. Maps, tables, charts, review and comprehension questions aid study.

15. Economics

Various types of economic systems and decisions, economic indicators and cycles are explained. Personal economic decision-making concepts like credit and interest rates are explained. Financial and governmental institutions workings are detailed. Decisions of presidents and other world leaders are also studied. Study questions aid students at the end of each introductory section.

16. American Government

The Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights and the inter-relationship of government, society, and the economy are introduced. Branches of federal, state, and local government, political parties, interest groups, as well as contemporary issues are all detailed. Rights, responsibilities, and duties of citizens to the democratic process, along with career opportunities in government services are featured.

17. World History

Political, social, economic, intellectual, military, and cultural developments from the pre-historic era to the present are analyzed. Ancient, Renaissance, Reformation, and Colonial Era achievements, along with revolutionary, nationalistic movements and ideologies, modern foreign policy and world wars, and international relations are all examined.

18. Career Research and Decision Making

Critical thinking for responsible decision-making, including researching the proper resources, for life and career decisions is studied. Examples, case studies, and insight exercises are featured.

19. Latin American History

Sociological, historical, anthropological, economic, and political issues of Central and South America and the Caribbean Basin are analyzed. The history of Latin America from the perspectives of indigenous peoples to a regional and contemporary world-view is studied.

20. Caribbean Studies

Study of the geography, history, culture, and development of the Caribbean. Individual, group, and national perspectives are applied.

21. Global Studies

Geography, history, politics, economics, sociology, and anthropology are applied to the study of cultural diversity. Challenges of today’s world are examined and students are taught to be active participants in the world community.

22. Psychology I

Study of human behavior and mental processes including how humans observe, describe, explain and predict human behavior. Human development and its effect on learning, thinking, personality, and social relationships is examined.

23. Psychology II

The uses of methods of testing and statistics in psychology help students explain human development, behavior, and interaction.

24. Sociology

Methods for understanding individuals and their relationship to society, cultures, institutions and groups are examined

25. Leadership Skills Development

Personal and professional leadership techniques are studied to expand leadership competence.

26. World Cultural Geography

Examines the inter-relationships between humans and the environment in the contemporary world from multi-cultural, historical, and regional perspectives. Physical, human, demographic, and natural resource issues are studied.

27. Introduction to Computers

Explains the many uses of the computer, basic computer concepts, hardware, software, the Internet, ethics, and the computer professions.

28. Ecology

The processes of the life sciences and how organisms interface with their environments are studied. Biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physical sciences, and other related fields add to this study.

Optional Courses

29. Geometry

Formulas, coordinate graphing, measuring lines, angles, circles, and parts of circles are added to the study in algebra concepts, patterns, geometric drawing, graphing, and calculation.

30. Algebra II

Algebra II: The purpose of this course is to continue the study of algebra and to provide the foundation for applying algebraic skills to other mathematical and scientific fields. Topics include number basics, the algebra- geometry connection, complex graphing, and statistics and probability.

31. Spanish I

Introduction to understanding and communicating in Spanish in daily business and personal situations. Language survival skills and love of the language are fostered for this important language of Europe and the Americas that is becoming more important in the global economy.

32. Spanish ll

Applications of basic Spanish skills for advanced comprehension and communication are explored. Practical language usage techniques for new contexts are developed.
