What Is The FCAT Explorer?
Florida has taken the educational resources that it has been given and created a free online program that assists students in the areas of reading and mathematics. This program is called FCAT Explorer. The main purpose of the site is to help students prepare for the state standardized test also known as the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
Different FCAT Explorer Programs For Different Age Groups
One of the programs on FCAT Explorer is a game for third graders called Galactic Library. This game helps strengthen the area of reading for this age group. The game is programmed to adapt to student's skill strengths based on how well they have done playing the game previously.
FCAT Explorer offers a reading program for eighth graders as well. This one is called Reading Boardwalk, which helps readers gain comprehension and vocabulary skills. This program also adapts to the individual students skill level.
Fourth graders can use the FCAT Explorer game titled Reading Odyssey. This game is divided into land, sea, and space areas making learning fun for the kids. Reading Odyssey helps students with vocabulary and is also skill adaptable.
Reading Island is an FCAT Explorer program aimed at sixth graders. Students read passages on several different topics and then answer questions about what they just read. The game has an island theme.
Tenth graders who still require a little more help in the reading area can utilize Reading Timeline. This FCAT Explorer game uses a history timeline format in which students read and answer questions in several different topic areas.
For the fifth grade level, FCAT Explorer offers a math game called Math Station. This program uses more than 150 different problems to help prepare fifth graders for the math portion of the test.
